Raven song

Ravens fly above our head
telling tales of earthly dead
Raven rune from the beak
I heard the song
I heard them speak
They wisper words
sweet to Óđinn
Wisdom god
once called Wođin
Heroic deeds born
truthful oaths sworn
Einherjars to come
Followed warbeaten drum
battle sticks carried
honor they married
from Valkyriers hand
to valgod land

Layers of winter

The sun is slowly returning
to our snow covered mother
stripping away the layers
of the cold and dark winter.

Skadi makes ready for a journey
To once again return to
her wedded home by the ocean
Leaving behind white mountains

The majestic ash tree
Shall sprout green leaves
The changing seasons
We welcome with warm hearts

Ran’s Kingdom

To all the brave people that dared to venture the mighty kingdom of the goddess Ran.

The changing waters
On long journey
Comforts the traveller
Within the seahorse

A fresh wind
Lifts the sail
Wooden planks
Over Ran’s kingdom

Many a warrior
Merchants more
The ocean goddess
Took to her home

A tired guest
A drenched soul
Visits her hall
For hours many

Afterlife

Sprung a world
From within
The mighty ash
It did begin

All are fated
To the cosmic hall
Down and north
Comes the call

For the road ahead
Hel shoes bound
For comforting travel
beyond the mound

Ancestors many
Embrace their kin
On Hel’s meadow
When forth come in

A poem inspired by our bedtime routine that we have to give our children comfort and stability. Advice from a family member with much life experience

The Land of gods

Beyond the pyre
lies the land of gods :
Ashes in the wind
release the soul :
A journey ahead
for the earthly dead :

Return to the source
to creation of life :
A different experience
you shall endure :
From the one we know
Hel will show :

Giving back to earth/Jørđ

For so many years we receive a gift from mother earth, such as food and water, for is it not true that what she gives us is that which maintains our physical body? yet when the time comes, our death, we often refuse to pay back the gift, meaning giving back our physical body to mother Jord. It is in our faith, the old ways, an utmost important aspect of life to give back a gift for a gift. If we have lived a long and pleasant life we should not look upon death with greed and resentment, but respect and gratitude, and be grateful for what we have received for so many years. That is not to say that parting with family should not be hard, as death does part, there is much sadness in the long-term absence of kith and kin. When my grandfather passed I felt great sorrow, not because I think of him as gone, but because the thought of not seeing him for a very long time leaves a great longing in me, I miss him so dearly. But in all our lives there comes a time for us to pay back the gift that we have so humbly been given, by mother earth and ultimately by Yggdrasil. I see the passing of life as an opportunity for a great experience very different from our own.

Yggdrasil chant

Following Óđinn’s footsteps I find myself hanging on the cosmic world tree, Yggdrasil, and to get into the meditative state I use a chant repeatedly that I have made.

Look upon the world tree,
Yggdrasil is sacred.
Hang on the world tree,
Yggdrasil is sacred.

Look upon the world tree,
Yggdrasil is sacred.
Hang on the world tree,
Yggdrasil is sacred.

My children

A poem for my children ❤

Have your seeking eyes
Seen the horizon
Have your blue eyes
Seen the ocean
Have your curious eyes
Seen the stars

Have your pale feet
Touched the water
Have your soft feet
Touched the sand
Have your small feet
Touched the grass

Have your gentle hands
Felt the soil
Have your cautious hands
Felt the warmth
Have your caring hands
Touched the face

Have your pointing ears
Heard the wind
Have your young ears
Heard the laughter
Have your little ears
Heard the rain

Have your smiling lips
Kissed the mother
Have your laughing lips
Kissed the father
Have your cute lips
Kissed the siblings

Have your sleeping thoughts
Searched the dreams
Have your waking thoughts
Searced the world
Have your thoughtful thoughts
Searched the Yggdrasil

I have looked into your curious eyes
I have lead your seeking feet
I have held your cautious hands
I have played with your little ears
I have smiled at your smiling lips

But on your thoughts
I can yet only wonder

in the distance

Ligthning flashes in the distance
Mjölnir’s force is near.

Thunder rolls in the mountains
the worst a Jötun can hear.

Passionate are the clouds
that drift above the air.

Wait for its full might
face it if you dare.
